Log0049 | uncomfortable normal
Waiting for the apartment gate to open. A kid nervously waits by the door. One foot up on the step, the other on the street. Anticipating. Darting glances down at a totally inebriated half shirtless life form sprawled out on the filthy pavement.
One shoe on, the other foot bare. Above him a sign reads: NO LOITERING IS ALLOWED ON OR IN FRONT OF THESE PREMISES.
I keep watching, waiting, wanting that kid to get inside, but equally I want some semblance of safety, security and stability for that man too. I want him to have the same opportunities and capacity to explore those opportunities as the kid. But how is that possible in a society that doesn’t have capacity to do something?
Somehow we have capacity to paint the streets with transgender flags. Somehow we have capacity to go to war with Iran. Yet somehow we have no capacity to fix this very real problem.
The man, the kid, the society as a whole - nobody wants to be here.
So we all turn a blind eye. And keep walking.
